Conflict Free Diamonds
Waldemar Jewellers only buy and sell diamonds that have been obtained under the strict standards of the Kimberly Process. This is an international process devoted to halting the trading of diamonds whose sale contributes toward civil war, insurgency, and terrorism.
The Kimberley Process is an initiative to prevent trade in conflict diamonds. It involves a partnership between industry, governments, and civil society groups. Conflict diamonds are those used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments. The conflict diamond trade has fuelled decades of devastating conflicts in countries such as Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone. Diamonds are tracked form the mine to the market under The Kimberley Process. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as ‘conflict-free’. Waldemar Jewellers supports the Kimberley Process.
At Waldemar Jewellers, we purchase diamonds exclusively through the largest and most respected suppliers who, like us, proudly adhere to and enforce the standards established by the Kimberley Process. All diamonds from Waldemar Jewellers are warranted to be conflict free.
Diamond mines are found throughout the world. There are major mines here in Australia. Major mines are also found in Africa, Russia and Canada. More positively, diamond mines employ and provide healthcare to thousands across many African nations.
Waldemar Jewellers observes the highest ethical and environmental standards across every aspect of our business. We also insist that our business partners adhere to those same high standards. Waldemar Jewellers continues to support and promote any process that upholds high standards in legitimacy and ethical standards in the diamond trade.
